Nest Productions was founded more than five years ago by Scottish based executive, Derek Drennan. It was set up in response to a growing need for high-quality production support in a fast and ever-changing landscape. It is a fully-fledged multi-genre indie, but without creatives.
Nest has partnered with over 300 companies since its inception. It supports indies with everything they need to grow and be able to win and produce big commissions, including supplying senior production expertise, and also wider support in legal, finance, HR & IT.
Nest is often approached by broadcasters and streamers to work with small indies that have an amazing idea but may lack the experience or infrastructure to pull it off. Nest partners with those companies, supporting them to make the production safely, on budget, legally and to make some profit.
“50 percent of getting a commission over the line is an idea first, and the other 50 percent is how you are going to make it and who is the team attached to it. With bigger budget or international projects, broadcasters or SVODs want to make sure they can trust the indie with the money and that needs the indie to demonstrate they have experienced people with a track record and the infrastructure to deliver.”
Prior to setting up Nest Productions, Derek was part-time MD at Honeybird Studios and Green Red Media, he was Director of Production at Saffron Cherry Productions and full-time at Wise Owl Films. Derek has also worked at Lime Pictures and Monkey Kingdom.
